WHAT is "Academic
Integration?"
Academic integration
is the act of uniting technical programs and academics
to create a curriculum for a student that is seamlessacademic,
career preparation, and technical strands will be tightly
woven.
HOW is academic
integration achieved?
Our
goal at the Saginaw Career Complex is to provide learning
experiences that integrate academics into the technical
programs. Students in the career/technical programs
are provided with support in technical reading, writing,
math and science; career preparation skills (resumes,
letters of introduction, interviewing skills, etc.);
presentation skills, and the development of working
and presentation portfolios.
Using two
ACT WorkKeys Assessments (Applied Mathematics, Reading
For Information), all entering students' basic skills
are assessed. These assessments are used, in part, to
determine a student's ability to be successful in the
technical program and in a specific job or occupational
field. More and more employers across the nation are
asking for ACT WorkKeys skill assessments. More than
3,000 unique job titles have been profiled to determine
the specific skill levels required for these jobs. Once
a student's skill levels have been determined, instructors
and support staff work with him/her to increase the
skill levels in these academic areas and provide the
student with the required skills for the job or occupation.
WHO are the
instructors that assist with academic integration?
In
addition to all program instructors, there are five
academic instructors who specialize in academic integration.
