WHAT is the Nursing Occupations program?

Nursing
Occupations teaches students the basic skills
for the nursing profession. Students complete
the education and training requirements to be
certified as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
This certification, recognized statewide by health
care professionals, qualifies program completers
for entry-level employment in the health care
industry. Graduates may also pursue additional
career training in nursing or allied health fields
at the post-secondary level.
WHY should I take the Nursing Occupations program?

Classes at the Saginaw Career Complex are different
than those offered at your home high school. You
learn by doing - not just reading, listening,
and memorizing. And you learn out in the real
world, on-the-job, with real people.
Nursing
students can expect to spend 25 percent of their
time learning on-site in a local health care facility.
Students receive a five-week clinical experience
in the area of long-term care in order to complete
training requirements for certification as a Certified
Nursing Assistant (CNA). An additional rotation
provides students opportunities to investigate
additional nursing or health related careers.
Students study under close supervision throughout
the work-based learning experiences.
You will also earn a competency certificate in
Nursing Occupations from the Saginaw Career Complex,
which says you've learned actual job skills at
high standards set by business and industry. Your
parents will love it. So will colleges and employers.
WHAT will I learn in the Nursing Occupations
program?

for all occupations through the year 2008 as the

advances in medicine, and a growing and aging
population. It is one of the fastest growing occupations.
WHERE can I go after completing the program?
Your training in Nursing Occupations gives
you exciting options:
Entry-level employment - Students might
begin their careers as a Certified Nursing Assistant
(CNA) in nursing homes or other health care
facilities.
Continued Education -Students
can continue their education with the advantage
of articulating college credits at the same
time they are earning their high school diploma,
and they don't have to pay for it! After successfully
completing the program, students may articulate
