WHO are the instructors?

The Medical Careers program has a dynamic duo that brings an enormous amount of experience and education to the classroom in order to teach students, and to share with them the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in a medical environment.

In addition to a warm smile and a bundle of energy, Mrs. Linda Holmes brings her education, training, and experience to the Medical Careers program at the Saginaw Career Complex. Mrs. Holmes has a BSN Degree from Wayne State University and she is currently working on a Master's Degree. In addition, she is also certified in CPR/AED For the Professional Rescuer and First Aid  for the State of Michigan. Being a registered nurse for 15 years has allowed Mrs. Holmes to hold nursing positions in long-term facilities as an Assistant Director of Nursing, as well as, a Nurse Aide Trainer. Mrs. Holmes also puts her knowledge and talents to use as a Train-the-Trainer professional, which includes being a Clinical Skills Observer for the State of Michigan's Department of Consumer and Industry Services. WOW! This is one busy and involved educator!

Ms. Engelhardt, as the second part of this dynamic duo, is eager to share her knowledge and experiences with her students.  "The medical profession has been very good to me, and I want students to know about the many opportunities available in the medical field."  To her students, Ms. Engelhardt stresses the very serious nature of professions in the medical field including quality of life issues, empathy, integrity, and confidentiality.  This high quality teacher brings a lot to hte classroom each day, including a warm smile to greet each student.

WHAT certifications can I achieve or work toward in the Medical Careers program?

CENA-The program provides an opportunity for students to earn the State of Michigan Certified Evaluated Nursing Assistant certification if they choose a nurse assistant clinical rotation during the year and successfully complete the nurse assistant course work and clinicals. To obtain this certification a student must pass a knowledge and clinical skills test administered by a State of Michigan testing facility. A student must pass both portions of this test to obtain the certification. Certification will entitle a student to apply for any position as a Competency Evaluated Nurse Aide (CENA), Nursing Assistant (NA), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or Home Health Care Aide.

CPR for the Professional Rescuer-CPR is an emergency lifesaving method used to restart the heart and lungs and is performed when the breathing or the heartbeat has stopped.

First Aide (Red Cross)-First aide has three aims, which are to preserve life, to prevent deterioration in a casualty's condition, and to promote recovery.
