WHAT is the Medical Careers program?

This program is designed for students interested
in pursuing a career in a health field. Students
will develop technical and personal skills necessary
to succeed as a health care professional.
WHY should I take the Medical Careers program?
Classes at the Saginaw Career Complex are different
than those offered at your home high school. You
learn by doing - not just reading, listening,
and memorizing. And you learn out in the real
world, on-the-job, with real people.

There
are over 200 careers in the health area. This
program gives insight into careers in fields such
as: medical imaging, pharmacy, dental, physical
therapy, respiratory therapy, veterinary medicine,
mortuary science, medical laboratory and many
more. These careers are explored through the work-based
learning component of the curriculum.
You will also earn a competency certificate in
Medical Careers from the Saginaw Career Complex,
which says you've learned actual job skills at
high standards set by business and industry. Your
parents will love it, so will colleges and employers.
WHAT will I learn in the Medical Careers program?
You will learn about:
Communication and Interpersonal Relations
Personal Health and Wellness
Work Ethics
Safety
Emergency Care
Medical Math
Medical Terminology and Abbreviations
Diagnostic Procedures
Transporting and Positioning
Hygiene and Personal Patient Care
Infection Control
Pre-Anatomy / Physiology
Employability Skills
Nutrition
You will learn and apply these principles in
a state of the art medical education lab. You
will also learn and practice skills in real work
environments.

WHAT are my job prospects?
Outstanding! Employment of medical personnel
is expected to grow much faster than the average
for all occupations through the year 2008 as the
health services industry expands due to technological
advances in medicine, and a growing and aging
population. It is one of the fastest growing occupations.
WHERE can I go after completing the program?
Your training in Medical Careers gives you
exciting options:
Entry-level employment - Students might
begin their careers at pharmacies, veterinary
clinics, or other health care facilities.
Continued Education - Students
may continue their education with the advantage
of articulating college credits at the same
time they are earning their high school diploma,
and they don't have to pay for it! After successfully
completing the program, students may articulate
credits at Delta College or Ferris State University.
The articulation process will give students
a head start on their post-secondary education,
as well as save them a considerable sum of money.
In addition, students are also ready to enter
industry/employer-sponsored training programs.
WHO
are the teachers?
The Medical Careers program has a dynamic duo
that brings an enormous amount of experience and
education to the classroom in order to teach students,
and to share with them the skills and knowledge
necessary to be successful in a medical environment.
In addition
to a warm smile and a bundle of energy, Mrs. Linda
Holmes brings her education, training, and experience
to the Medical Careers program at the Saginaw
Career Complex. Mrs. Holmes has a BSN Degree from
Wayne State University and she is currently working

also puts her knowledge and talents to use as
a Train-the-Trainer professional, which includes
being a Clinical Skills Observer for the State
of Michigan's Department of Consumer and Industry
Services. WOW! This is one busy and involved educator!
Ms.

has been very good to me, and I want students
to know about the many opportunities available
in the medical field." To her students,
