WHAT
is the Electronic Media/Broadcasting program?

This
program has been designed to develop the knowledge
and skills of students in the technical and non-technical
aspects of the media and broadcast industry. With
job-skill training, work-based learning, and hands-on
instruction, students will prepare for a career
in the advancing and expansive field of Electronic
Media/Broadcasting.
WHY should I take the Media/Broadcasting program?
Classes at the Saginaw Career Complex are different
than those offered at your home high school. You
learn by doing - not just reading, listening,
and memorizing. And you learn out in the real
world, on-the-job, with real people.
This course is a part of the Arts
and Communication Career major, in the visual
arts pathway. Students, who successfully complete
this program, are prepared to begin work in facilities
such as:
Television Stations
Radio Stations
Media Centers
Post-Production facilities
Program completers are also prepared for further
training in community colleges, technical centers,
or universities.
You
will also earn a competency certificate in Electronic
Media/Broadcasting from the Saginaw Career Complex,
which says you've learned actual job skills at
high standards set by business and industry. Your
parents will love it. So will colleges and employers.

will I learn in the Electronic Media/Broadcasting
program?
You will learn about:
Audio/Video production
Studio operations
Multimedia exploration
Maintenance and troubleshooting
Teamwork applications
Employability skills
Communication
Mathematics
Job-safety procedures.
You
will learn and apply these principles in a state-of-the-art

WHAT are my job prospects?

Great
for trained applicants! People seeking beginning
jobs as radio and television broadcast technicians
are expected to face strong competition in major
metropolitan areas, where the number of qualified
job seekers exceeds the number of openings. There,
stations seek highly experienced personnel. Prospects
for entry-level positions generally are better
in small cities and towns for beginners with appropriate
training, like the Electronic Media/Broadcasting
program
WHERE can I go after completing the program?
Your
training in the Electronic Media/Broadcasting
program gives you exciting options:
Entry-level employment -Students might
begin their careers in television and radio
stations, media centers, post-production facilities.
Continued Education -Students
have the opportunity to continure their education
with the advantage of articulating college credits
at the same time they are earning their high
school diploma, and they don't have to pay for
it! After successfully completing the program,
students may articulate credits at Delta College
or Ferris State University. The articulation
process will give students a head start in their
post-secondary education, as well as save them
a considerable sum of mone. In addition, students
are also ready to enter industry/employer-sponsored
training programs.
WHO is the teacher?
Mr.
Bryan Lawson has worked as a production manager
at a public access television station and has
been a trainer for that station. His favorite
part of teaching is "seeing the 'AHA' moment
when students finally make the connection between
hearing the information and using it in the lab."
