Please select a question:

WHAT is the Machine Tool Technology program?

Students learn to shape metals in lathes, grinders, drill presses, milling machines, and shapers. Instruction will be given in using measuring tools and mathematical formulas to calculate operations necessary to machine parts.

WHY should I take the Machine Tool Technology program?

Classes at the Saginaw Career Complex are different than those offered at your home high school. You learn by doing - not just reading, listening, and memorizing. And you learn out in the real world, on-the-job, with real people.

This program will help students to develop the fundamental knowledge, skills and attitude required to be qualified for an entry level position or preparation for advanced studies in the machine tools fields.

You will also earn a competency certificate in Machine Tool Technology from the Saginaw Career Complex, which says you've learned actual job skills at high standards set by business and industry. Your parents will love it, so will colleges and employers.

WHAT will I learn in the Machine Tool Technology program?

You will learn about:
• Quality assurance
• Process adjustment and improvement
• Turning set-up & operations
• Milling set-up and operations
• Surface grinding set-up & operations
• Layout and bench work processes

You will learn and apply these principles in a state of the art Machine Tool Technology lab. You will also learn and practice skills in real work environments.

WHAT are my job prospects?

Excellent! Job opportunities will be excellent for machinists and related careers, as employers continue to report difficulties in finding workers with the necessary skills and knowledge to fill machining and CNC programming openings. Many job openings will arise each year from the need to replace experienced machinists and programmers who transfer to other occupations or retire.

WHERE can I go after completing the program?

Your training in the Machine Tool Technology program gives you exciting options:

Entry-level employment - Students might begin careers in machine tool shops and apprenticeships.
Continued Education - Students have the opportunity to continue their education with the advantage of articulating college credits at the same time students are earning their high school diploma, and they don't have to pay for it! After successfully completing the program, students may articulate credits at Delta College and Ferris State University. The articulation process will give students a head start on their post-secondary education, as well as, saving them a considerable sum of money. In addition, students are also ready to enter industry/employer-sponsored training programs.

WHO is the teacher?
