WHO is the instructor?
A student once said, "At first I thought
my instructor was a geek. Soon, I found Mr. Roebuck
to be an informational database. . . ." Mr.
Dennis Roebuck, indeed, is a remarkable source
of information for the students enrolled in either
of the programs he teaches at the Complex. Mr.
Roebuck's formal training covers a broad spectrum.
He has a Bachelor's Degree from Saginaw Valley
State University along with a Michigan Professional
Teaching Certificate in English, History, Computer
Science, and Vocational Business Services. In
addition, Mr. Roebuck has been employed as a computer
programmer/technician by American Express, McDonnell-Douglas,
EDS, and the School District of the City of Saginaw.
WHAT special clubs or student organizations
is the program involved with?
Business
Professionals of America-BPA is a co-curricular
organization designed to meet the needs of students
enrolled in vocational business and office education
programs. Students have the opportunity to compete
at the local, state, and national levels.
SkillsUSA-The
goal of the SkillsUSA organization is to develop
employability, participatory and quality skills
to complement the occupational skills developed
by students in technical education classrooms
or work-based learning sites. Students are able
to demonstrate their skills in competitive events
at the local, state, and national levels.
WHAT
certifications can I achieve or work toward in
the Game, Database, and Web Design program?
Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)-The OCP has
been developed by Oracle Corp. to recognize technical
professionals who can demonstrate the depth of
knowledge and hands-on skills required to support
Oracle's core products according to a standard
of excellence established by Oracle Corp.
Java Certification-Java is a programming language
that is used for Internet development. Java capabilities
are also available in databases, such as Oracle.
The popularity of Java has increased the number
of computer certifications available for Java.
Students may earn a Marketable Skills Certificate.
The marketable skills certification process provides
students with the opportunity to demonstrate,
document, and defend their achievement of employer
validated standards and competencies. Achievement
of the marketable skills certification should
improve the likelihood of success in future employment
and/or a continuing educational program.
