WHAT is the Game, Database, and Web Design program?

In the Game, Database, and Web Design program, students will learn to write computer programs and build and access databases.  Students may specialize in: 

  • Video Game Development,
  • Web Page Design, and/or
  • Business Programming/Database Design.

 

WHY should I take Game, Database, Web Design program?

The knowledge ands skills learned in this program transfer directly to the larger information technology industry, opening up a wide range of career paths.  Students are prepared to take industry certification exams.

Classes at the Saginaw Career Complex are different than those offered at your home high school. You learn by doing—not just reading, listening, and memorizing. And you learn out in the real world, on-the-job, with real people.

You will have the latest technology to assist you with your program of study. Also, since you will be able to concentrate on just one area of interest for one half of the school day, you will leave better prepared to enter the world of work or post secondary education.

You will also earn a competency certificate in Game, Database, and Web Design from the Saginaw Career Complex, which says you've learned actual job skills at high standards set by business and industry. Your parents will love it, so will colleges and employers.

WHAT will I learn in the Game, Database, and Web Design program?

Students in the Game, Database, and Web Design program will receive instruction in the following areas:

• Current computer technology
• Business practices
• HTML, Visual Basic, Java, and SQL programming
• Website designing
• Extensive use of the internet
• Contributing member of a team
• Apply skills and knowledge in a real work environment
• Professionalism, goal setting, work ethics, conflict resolution, 

   listening skills, group interaction
• Syntax rules and logical styles
• Database design

You will learn and apply these skills in a clean, well-equipped, state-of-the-art computer laboratory, as well as in the real world of work.

WHAT are my job prospects?

Greater than average! Some estimates say internet traffic doubles every 100 days. The Occupational Outlook Handbook reports that E-Commerce/Computer related jobs "are expected to be the fastest growing occupations through 2008." Students with an education in Game, Database, and Web Design will be future entrepreneurs, as well as managers, analysts and programmers.

WHERE can I go after completing the program?

Your training in the Game, Database, and Web Design program gives you several exciting options:

Entry-level employment - with internet business companies
Entrepreneurship - by starting your own computrer related business
Continued Education - the Game, Database, and Web Design program at the Saginaw Career Complex will be a stepping stone to pursuing further education in many different areas of study such as the E-Commerce certificate program at Ferris State University, research, computer engineering, software design, technology design, network management, or internet marketing. WHO is the teacher?

Mr. Randall Juhl has spent most of his33 year career working with computers and teaching others about computers. His educational background includes an Associate's of Science Degree from the College of Lake County in Illinois, a Bachelor's Degree in Applied Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin, and graduate studies in computer science from Old Dominion University in Virginia and Central Michigan University. Other past experiences include work as a Chief Petty Officer Electronics Technician in the United States Navy.

WHAT are the admission requirements?

Students admitted to the Game, Database, and Web Design program at the Saginaw Career Complex must:

• Have an interest in a career in a computer related area.
• Be a high school junior or senior.
• Be on track for high school graduation
• Have good attendance habits.
• Be willing to attend the Saginaw Career Complex for half of the school day and participate in work-based learning experiences.

WHAT does it cost?

Nothing! Eligible high school students may attend free of charge.
