WHAT
is the Manufacturing/Chemical Processing Technology
program?

Manufacturing/Chemical
Processing Technology is a fast-paced and challenging
program designed to prepare high school students
for employment and advanced training in the chemical
manufacturing industry. Students will learn
to use proper operating procedures, understand
basic and complex chemical reactions, interpret
laboratory test results, and correlate data gathered
from manufacturing processes. Students will
develop skills to operate a manufacturing process
in on on-site laboratory as well as on the job.
WHY
should I take Manufacturing/Chemical Processing
Technology?

Classes
at the Saginaw Career Complex are different than
those offered at your home high school. You learn
by doingnot just reading, listening, and
memorizing. And you learn out in the real world,
on-the-job, with real people.
Designed
to meet the rigorous standard established by our
partners from Dow Corning and The Dow Chemical
Company, the Manufacturing/Chemical Processing
Technology program will prepare you for employment
and advanced training in the chemical manufacturing
industry. Students who successfully complete
this program will be several steps ahead of other
high school students who hope to have careers
in chemical processing technology.
You
will also earn a competency certificate in Manufacturing/Chemical
Processing Technology from the Saginaw Career
Complex, which says you've learned actual job
skills at high standards set by business and industry.
Your parents will love it. So will colleges and
employers.
WHAT
will I learn in Manufacturing/Chemical Processing
Technology?
You will learn:
To recognize career opportunities in
the chemical manufacturing industry
To control equipment and systems that
process chemical substances into industrial
or consumer products
To operate distillation columns, batch
and continuous reactors, mixing and blending
tanks and kettles, filtration processes, complex
instruments to control processes, and laboratory
test equipment
To understand basic and complex chemical
reactions
How to maintain safety, health, and
environmental standards
How to apply skills in chemistry, physics,
communication, and technology to solve practical
problems
How to be a productive member of a team
Professionalism, goal setting, work
ethics, conflict resolution, and coping with
change
To correlate process equipment data gathered
from process instrumentation
How to interpret laboratory test results
You will learn these skills in a clean, well-equipped,
up-to-date chemical-processing laboratory. You
will also learn and practice skills in real work
environments.
