WHAT is the Business, Management, and Administration program?

This innovative program is an introduction to business integrating several areas of business; including computer skills, accounting, finance, supervision, management, and office administration. Students develop skills to pass the Microsoft Certification Exam in the areas of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Teamwork, communication and career planning prepare students to successfully enter the growing fields of computer information, accounting, finance, and/or to continue their education.

It can be your ticket to a rewarding career in the business world. It's offered at the Saginaw Career Complex for students like you who want to learn real skills - in the classroom and on the job - and get a head start on a career.

WHY should I take Business, Management, and Administration?

Classes at the Saginaw Career Complex are different than those offered at your home high school. You learn by doing—not just reading, listening, and memorizing. And you learn out in the real world, on-the-job, with real people.

The Saginaw Career Complex Business, Management, and Administration program offers training in an area of growing need. Employers increasingly require knowledge of software applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.

Students have the opportunity to prepare for certifications recogonized in the business industry.

You will also earn a competency certificate in Business, Management, and Administration from the Saginaw Career Complex, which says you've learned actual job skills at high standards set by business and industry. Your parents will love it. So will colleges and employers.

Students may also participate in professional organizations, which will help to increase their knowledge, experience, and competitive edge!

WHAT will I learn in Business, Management, and Administration?

You will learn:

• Office software applications

• Leadership and teamwork skills
• Career research and planning
• Economics and critical thinking skills

You will learn these skills in a clean, well-equipped, up-to-date business service technology lab. You will also learn and practice skills in real work environments.

WHAT are my job prospects?

Job openings should be plentiful, particularly for well-qualified and experienced office support persons, computer software specialists, and accounting assistants. The Saginaw Career Complex provides training and experience that will look great to an employer.
Projected employment of business services professionals will vary by occupational specialty. Rapid growth in the health and legal services industries should lead to average growth for medical and legal secretaries. Rapidly growing industries—such as personnel supply, computer and data processing, and management and public relations—will generate new job opportunities.

WHERE can I go after completing the program?

Your training in the Business, Management, and Administration program gives you several exciting options:

Entry-level employment - Students might start their careers in a variety of business settings, such as; Management Support, Administrative Assistant, Computer Specialist, Accounting Assistant, and Finance Assistant.
Entrepreneurship - Or, students might begin by opening up their own businesses.
Continued Education - Students can continue their education with the advantage of articulating college credits at the same time they are earning their high school diploma, and they don't have to pay for it! After successfully completing the program, students may articulate credits at Ferris State University. The articulation process will give students a head start on their post-secondary education, as well as save them a considerable sum of money. In addition, students are also ready to enter industry/employer-sponsored training programs.

WHO are the teachers?

Ms. Cheri Wilson brings a great deal of knowledge and talent to the classroom as she shares her formal training and professional working experiences with her students. She has earned an Associate's Degree in both Business Administration and International Studies from Kalamazoo Valley Community College and a Bachelor's Degree from Western Michigan University. In addition to her formal training, Ms. Wilson also has twenty years of work experience in the business world.

WHAT are the admission requirements?

Students admitted to the Business, Management, and Administration program at the Saginaw Career Complex must:

• Have an interest in a career in the business services
• Be a high school junior or senior
• Be on track for high school graduation
• Have good attendance habits
• Be willing to attend the Saginaw Career Complex or work-based learning facility for half the school day, plus spend additional time doing work-based learning (often paid)

WHAT does it cost?

Nothing! Eligible high school students may attend FREE of charge.
